This course is designed to introduce students to the basic principles and concepts of epidemiology
including epidemiological terms. Students learn about the history and early pioneers that contributed to the
field of epidemiology. Topics include experimental and observational epidemiological study designs.
Descriptive and analytical epidemiological study designs are presented in the course and students learn how
to conduct a disease outbreak investigation, manage epidemiological data, and interpret results. Students
are introduced to epidemiological subspecialties including chronic disease and clinical epidemiology.
