This course provides a foundational introduction to Electronic Health Records (EHR) and their role
in the U.S. healthcare system. Students examine how electronic health records support healthcare quality,
accessibility and cost-effective healthcare management. Topics include the basic navigation and use of an
electronic medical record, privacy and security standards, ethical and legal issues, health data management
requirements, and services related to health information documentation and exchange. This course helps
students build an understanding of how EHR systems support healthcare operations, communication, compliance
and patient-centered care.
